Cueva de los Verdes
Cueva de los Verdes is one of the world's most impressive volcanic tube caves, formed approximately 4,000 years ago by lava flows from the Corona Volcano. The cave extends over 6 kilometers, though guided tours cover about 1 kilometer of the most spectacular sections.
The name "Green Caves" comes from the Verdes family who once owned the land, not from the cave's color. Inside, you'll discover an otherworldly landscape of volcanic formations, with colors ranging from deep reds and oranges to blacks and grays, illuminated by carefully designed lighting that enhances the natural beauty.
The guided tour takes approximately 50 minutes and includes fascinating geological explanations. The cave's remarkable acoustics have led to it being used as a concert venue, and the tour includes a surprise feature that demonstrates the cave's unique optical illusions.
The temperature inside remains constant at 19°C year-round, making it a comfortable visit in any weather. The cave was historically used as a refuge by local residents during pirate raids, adding historical significance to its geological importance.
