Hiking Caldera Blanca
Caldera Blanca is one of Lanzarote’s most impressive volcanic formations and offers one of the best hiking experiences on the island. This extinct volcano rises 458 metres above sea level and features a massive crater nearly 1.2 kilometres in diameter.
The hike to the summit takes approximately 2–3 hours round trip and offers spectacular 360-degree views of the island’s volcanic landscape. The trail is moderately challenging, with some steep sections, but is suitable for most fitness levels.
From the rim of the crater, hikers can see across the entire island, including views of Timanfaya National Park, the Atlantic Ocean, and on clear days, the neighboring islands. The stark white and red volcanic landscape creates an almost alien environment that’s perfect for photography.
The best time to hike is early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and sturdy hiking shoes as the volcanic terrain can be rough and loose in places.
